About the HLA

The Humanitarian Logistics Association

HLA is a membership organisation, empowering logisticians to deliver humanitarian aid and development assistance more effectively. HLA facilitates better connections between supply and demand, enabling cross sector learning, innovations and partnerships, supporting market transparency, reducing waste and harnessing opportunities to help the total become greater than the sum.

HLA was established in 2009 and we are a non-profit, UK-based NGO, whose members work on an individual basis or in partnerships, to respond to global emergencies.

The HLA is focussed on achieving three key outcomes:

Policy change

We work with donors, aid organizations, private and public sectors to help them improve their supply chain management policies to enable improved aid delivery.

Market Transparency

We support shared marketplaces which are recognised and used by all sectors involved in aid delivery, enabling resource efficiencies and better supported local businesses.

Empowered logisticians

We facilitate evidence and knowledge generated via projects, research and case studies to be shared to improve awareness and provoke mind-set changes, enabling individual skills and organisational supply chain design improvements.

How we are governed

HLA is governed by a board of Trustees who represent aid logistics, private and academic sectors. The board of trustees is responsible for setting the HLA’s overall strategy and objectives, its budget and its governance, supported by the HLA Advisory Group.

The day-to-day running of the association is delegated by the Board to the HLA operations team who are helped by a number of volunteers across various disciplines including finance, project management, IT and marketing.

All members enjoy access to our interactive member-only platform which is the home of member-to-member communication, collaboration and knowledge sharing. It’s the place to hear first about HLA events and other activities and you can use the platform to contact us directly if you need help identifying other members who have expertise in a particular area.

NGO benefits - the ability to upload tenders for the procurement of goods, services and consultancy advice from suppliers, advertise vacancies and promote your events and training courses to other members.

Private sector benefits - promote your business via the supplier register and HLA events throughout the year (membership tier dependent), gain access to the tender portal and respond to relevant opportunities, advertise vacancies and promote your own events to members.

Emergency management authority benefits - access and contribute to the ‘emergency roster’ and ‘emergency register’ which matches requirements for products, services and human resources to available supply which will streamline responses in times of crisis.

Academia benefits – seek input and contributions to research reports or other projects relevant to the aid logistics sector, promote your findings among HLA members.
